What is Success?

What is success? This is a question I’ve asked myself and others many time throughout my career. I used to associate success to simply completing tasks set by myself or others.   Over the last couple years however, as I have learned more about how our minds work through studying NLP, I realised success is really about the feeling that you get when you have achieved what you set your mind to.

Setting about working through a task and completing it is part of success, but it also relates to your mindset around success and what it is that you want to achieve.  I will talk more about the success mindset in an upcoming blog.

An important point about success is that you are clear on what you really want. Many years ago, I decided that I would learn hypnotherapy. Once I had done my training I spent a couple years working out if hypnotherapy and NLP were the ways I wanted to help people. When I decided it was, I put a plan in place achieve my goal of being a full-time NLP hypnotherapist.  The plan required me to, work out what I need to do, how much money I needed for the family to live on and how to save the money needed.  It took me 18 months to successfully go fulltime in my business. But, was this success I wanted for myself and my business?   I had successfully completed the tasks to go fulltime, but it was not the business success I wanted.  I still felt I had some way to go to have the business that would provide me with the lifestyle, wealth and personal development I was after.

So my next lot of actions were to create the business I wanted.  It was only then I felt my business would be successful. I started to see clients throughout the week, I created the freedom to work with clients at different times throughout the day, and I had time off to do other activities.  Finally success in my real goal to have a business providing me with the lifestyle, wealth and personal development I was after.

Success is both a feeling and an achievement. It is the positive feeling you get when you have achieved your goal.  You can have small successes like completing a task, or a big achievement like I did in creating a business that support my family and my lifestyle. You can have success in all areas of your life such as: business; health; wealth and personal development.  To be successful you need to be clear on what it is you want and then go and create it.
